Sandhole Oak Barn Rustic Wedding Photography

Wow! What an amazing day for Katie and Sam’s rustic wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn. The day was blessed with glorious summer sunshine and it was was one of those weddings I could have photographed forever. The were so many people having so much fun!

Unfortunately, Sam isn’t the most romantic man in the world!! We got engaged at home after a Chinese in October 2015 and I was washing the pots! He got down on one knee whilst I was scrubbing the plates (getting down on one knee is as romantic as it got)!! I always told Sam I’d love to get engaged with my ring on a puppy’s collar! (We got our 2nd German shepherd Seth 2 weeks after the engagement… it would have been so perfect and romantic Adrian!) anyway, the engagement has worked to my advantage, I never let him forget how unromantic it was – mean aren’t I!

I always knew I wanted to get married in a barn and Sam and I agreed that we weren’t bothered about a church wedding. We chose Sandhole Oak Barn because it’s beautiful, the gorgeous lake, the barn itself, the dressing room and the accommodation! It was perfect for what we wanted and it’s only down the road from home!

The theme of our wedding was rustic elegance and simplicity. We chose a rustic style as it was in keeping with the barn and I love everything girly and rustic! Sam has always enjoyed woodwork so it just seemed like the perfect theme for us. We didn’t want to much fuss as the barn is so beautiful in its simplest form we didn’t want to take anything away from that. Our colour scheme was blue, blue is my favourite colour, it’s the colour that looks best on Sam and it’s the colour of my daddy’s eyes! We chose a powder / pale blue as it’s a summery colour, (my dad has recently won his fight with cancer) and my dad’s eyes are an ice blue, Sam has always worn shades of blue – like I say he looks good in blue! We had different shades of peach and purple to go with the blue in the flowers etc.

What sort of dress did you choose?

My wedding dress was from Maria Modes in Macclesfield, the style of wedding dress I chose was a sheath style, a flowing A-line. It was Sam who chose my dress, without even knowing he did! I went dress shopping on my birthday last November, as I put the dress on and stepped out from behind the curtain (I already knew it was the one at this stage) a massive bouquet of flowers arrived from Sam and everyone burst into tears! It was a lovely moment and it was the seal of approval I needed to buy the dress!

What other special touches did you add to your day?

After winning his fight with cancer my dad had kept himself busy with woodwork, he made all the centrepieces for the tables at the wedding, the large wooden ‘welcome’ log slice and the a-frame board. It was lovely that he could help with the little touches that really made the decoration perfect! Fortunately, I practice calligraphy so I could write all the menus, signs and table plans myself, wherever possible we tried to do things ourselves!

Our favourite part of the day was saying our vows, even though it was (slightly) emotional, seeing each other’s faces as I walked down the aisle is something we’ll never forget!

My top tip, the day goes so quick, so make sure you take time to take it all in, go and sit with your new husband/wife and have time together!

If you could sum up your wedding day in 5 words what would they be?

The most magical day ever!
